The harvest season is getting busier, and area farmers may find themselves overworked and underfed; but the students with Knoxville High School’s Future Farmers of America understand, and they want to help.

This Saturday, they will be holding their second Feed the Farmer event; local farmers are invited to join them for a free lunch at Smith Fertilizer and Grain south of Knoxville from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

But for those who can’t come in from the fields, the meal will come to them; the students will deliver on request to any farmer who is out working, wherever they may be located.

Carson Shinn from the FFA tells KNIA/KRLS News last year’s deliveries were welcomed by hungry farmers at work.

“A lot of them really liked it. When we had a lot of call-ahead orders to take it to the fields for them…we had no complaints. It was very good last year,” Shinn says.

For those who come in to dine, it’s a chance to meet and chat with fellow farmers and with the FFA students who aspire to work in the same arena themselves.
