The Pella and Knoxville Marching Bands competed at the 39th annual Valleyfest in West Des Moines Saturday.

Knoxville marched in the morning during the first session, among many other Class 3A bands from central Iowa.

Pella competed in the annual showdown in the evening, claiming 2nd place to Independence in the Class B competition. The Marching Dutch also were recognized for outstanding percussion and marching in their division.

Area marching bands, including Pella, Knoxville, and PCM, wrap up the season this Saturday at Pella High School at the Iowa High School Music Association state festival, with the Marching Dutch and Mustangs also heading to the the Mid-Iowa Band Championship in Ankeny that evening.

Bellevue West High School of Nebraska won the Class A and overall competition with a score of 84.7
