California Senator Kamala Harris visited the Brickhouse Tavern in Indianola Monday, meeting with local candidates and citizens, and encouraging voters to support the Democratic Party ticket.

Approximately 100 supporters attended, with Harris speaking on issues such as the economy, discrimination, healthcare, and the importance of voting.

Senator Harris tells KNIA News there has been a consistent message she has heard from Iowans

“What people are telling me is that people love their country and they love this state. They are worried about their healthcare, they are worried about what is happening with clamping down on labor’s ability to organize and collectively bargain, they are telling me that they are worried about education and supporting teachers, there is a variety of issues people are talking about. but they are also telling me that they are engaged, and how they are excited about being involved and excited about what is going to happen over the next 15 days.”

Harris is widely seen as one of many Democratic candidates testing the waters for a run at the Iowa caucuses and the Democratic nomination for President in 2020.
