There’s still time to make sure you’re registered for the general election next week, by checking with your County Auditor or by going to the polls on Election Day.
You can check with the Auditor’s office to see if you are registered; some voters who have not cast ballots recently may be moved to the inactive voter list, but you can get yourself re-activated by presenting ID and proof of residency to the auditor’s staff.
Marion County Auditor Jake Grandia says this is most commonly the result of having moved within the county, and not notifying his office of your new address.
You may also register or re-register up to and including on Election Day; prior to that day, the process is much the same as obtaining an absentee ballot but requires more identification. You can usually do so with a state-issued ID such as your driver’s license, and other documents which establish your residency.
And you can do the same thing at your local polling place on Election Day.
