The organizers of Saturday’s Treats in the Trunk holiday trick-or-treating event in Knoxville hoped for a great turnout, and they weren’t disappointed.
Hundreds of kids in costume lined up in the municipal lot across from City Hall, making their way from vehicle to vehicle as various exhibitors handed out candy and treats.
The Optimist Club organizes this event, alongside their high-school level Octagon Club; Maddi Graves from the Octagon Club tells KNIA/KRLS News this event brings the adult and junior clubs together for an important event.
“They put this on, and they buy all of our candy and they make all the games, and then we can show up with our vehicles and hand out the candy to all the kids; and it’s a really good volunteer experience for us,” Graves says.
“Knoxville High School has the Silver Cord, so that all of our service hours can go to that; and then we can get a cord to wear for graduation.
The Optimist Club had been hoping for a big turnout, and members hope this year’s attendance will enable them to move it to the square in the future.
