The race for the Iowa State Auditor’s Office has turned into more than just Republican vs. Democrat, but a difference of opinion on how the office should be run.

The office has been run by Certified Public Accountants for the last 40 years from both sides of the aisle. Current State Auditor Mary Mosiman is a CPA and is running for re-election, and says:

“Without a CPA at the head of this important office, the State Auditor’s office would lose its status as a CPA firm. That would have a devastating impact on services governments and Iowans count on.”

Democratic candidate for Iowa Auditor Rob Sand tells KNIA News his background as a prosecutor will help the office become more versatile

“Your tax dollars pay for 30 CPAs currently in the office, adding one more isn’t going to do us any good. Meanwhile, adding law enforcement personnel will make sure that the investigations division has a more well rounded staff.”

The election will be held on Tuesday, November 6th.
