A former Pella standout defensive back has been a force for the Drake football program, and had his best game to date this past weekend.
Will Warner was named the Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week. Warner tied a conference record with 3 interceptions in one game, including two in the final 3:46 in win against Marist. The second pick helped set up game-winning field goal and 3rd INT sealed the win. Warner’s Defensive Player of the Week honor is his second of the season and a league-best fifth this season by the Bulldogs.
He leads the Division I Football Championship Subdivision in interceptions with eight and interception return yardage with 223 yards.
Former Pella player Nathan Clayberg has also been named Pioneer Football League defensive player of the week twice, and the senior has racked up nine tackles for loss this fall.
The Bulldogs are 6-3, 5-3 in the PFL, and will wrap up the season this Saturday at Morehead State in Kentucky.
