The Simpson Storm men’s and women’s basketball teams split their season opening games this weekend on their home court, with the women winning 100-65 over Millikin University, and the men falling 103-100 to Bethany Lutheran in overtime.

Jenna Taylor had a 21-point 10-rebound double double in the blowout win, which saw the Storm get up 42-23 at halftime and not look back. Madie Bacon scored 12 off the bench. The Storm men had a 7 point lead at halftime, but a strong comeback by Bethany Lutheran tied the game at the end of regulation, and the Storm missed a three at the end to extend into the second overtime. Conor Riordan had 35 points in the loss. The Storm women are now 1-0 and will play in a tournament at Saint Mary’s in Minnesota, while the men are now 0-1 and play this afternoon in Westminster Missouri.
