Pella Christian girls basketball has a new head coach leading the way for the program.

Brad Engbers will be the new head coach, replacing Kevin Van Maanen, who is assuming leadership of the JV program in order to spend more time farming and with family. Van Maanen lead the program to the state tournament in 2012 and 2013. Engbers tells KRLS Sports he’s enjoying a return to head coaching after assisting with the Eagles off and on over the years, as he was the head coach at Chicago Christian.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he says. “I had agreed to help Kevin out as an assistant coach, and then as things transpired this fall, we just decided to switch roles, and I’m going to be the head coach this year.”

Pella Christian opens the season Saturday when they travel to Van Meter.
