The Indianola City Council approved the next step in the project to upgrade the traffic safety signals on Highway 92 and 65/69 at their most recent meeting.
City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News bids were approved to purchase battery backups for the lights.
“What the battery backups will do is when or if there is a power outage, the lights will go into flash mode. That means we won’t have to have officers set up stop signs, and we can remove the stop signs attached to traffic boxes by bungie cords, and it makes things easier for everyone. We will also be upgrading the crosswalk signals to make sure they are compliant with state code.”
Waller also said he expects the upgrades to be completed by springtime.
