Drivers within the Knoxville city limits fared well during Sunday’s snowstorm, even as drivers elsewhere struggled against the conditions.
Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada tells KNIA/KRLS News there were no accidents reported in the city during the course of the blizzard.
“We’re pleasantly surprised that people have remembered how to drive in bad weather,” jokes Losada. “We had no reports of accidents within the city limits; I do know there were several instances where there were some medical emergencies related to the storm, but other than that it was pretty good.”
Losada says most of those medical incidents involved people slipping and falling.
The city’s snow ordinance went into effect as the storm increased, and Chief Losada says they stuck to their plans to seriously enforce parking rules.
He says a total of 17 vehicles were ticketed for parking on the street while the snow emergency was in progress; but the majority of drivers kept their vehicles off the street, which allowed plows to quickly and safely finish their work.
