One Special Olympian from Marion County will be front and center at tomorrow’s Big Twelve Championship Game, as she helps with the opening coin toss.

Marissa Schletzbaum will be on the turf at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for the coin flip; she’s there at the invitation of the Big Twelve, which every year brings in Special Olympians from the five states with schools in the conference to take part.

Schletzbaum tells KNIA/KRLS News she’s “thrilled and humbled” to be invited to participate in the game; she’ll be joined by fellow Special Olympian Andrew Bowen of Oklahoma, and both will be further recognized during a time-out.

Marissa is the owner of Straw Hat Farms, which has a greenhouse and offers fresh produce; she has won six gold medals at the State Olympic Games, and has participated in bowling, track and field, bocce, basketball and dance with the Special Olympics.

While at Pleasantville High School, Marissa ran cross-country, played on the golf team and was a cheerleader.

The game between Texas and Oklahoma will begin at 11 a.m. on ABC.
