The Simpson Storm basketball teams continued their strong start to American Rivers Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Buena Vista last night as heard live on the KNIA2 stream.

The women got out to an early lead, forcing 17 first half turnovers and held the Beavers to just 8 second quarter points en route to a 44-21 halftime advantage. The forced turnovers did not stop there, as the Storm forced another 16 in the second half to end up winning 82-56. Jenna Taylor led the Storm with 25 points, while Cassie Chubb had a double-double off the bench with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The men’s squad was locked in a tough battle with the Beavers, maintaining a constant 4-plus point lead, but was not able to stretch it in the first half, then a cold spell forced a 35-35 tie at halftime. The Storm continued to nurse a 4 to 6 point lead throughout the majority of the second half, before a Kyle Wagner three point basketball got the lead to 9 and it was over from there as the Storm won 81-68. Conor Riordan scored a game high 21, while Adam Reiter had 19 and collected 12 rebounds.

Both Storm teams improve to 2-1 in conference play.
