They just couldn’t miss…at least, it seemed that way in a 55-point first half barrage for the Pella boys basketball team as both the Little and Lady Dutch dominated wire-to-wire in their doubleheader hosting Norwalk Friday night, as heard live on KRLS2 at KNIAKRLS.com.

Pella’s boys offense was 12-of-15 from beyond-the-arc in the first 16 minutes, opening a 21 point advantage at the halftime break of their 84-66 win over the Warriors.

And while their offense exploded in the first half, head coach Derek Schulte was most excited about how multiple players in their ten-man rotation contributed all over the floor — with 25 assists and five players scoring in double figures.

In the midst of a three-point shooting affair, Nick DeJong was steady in a return from injury, scoring 15 points and collecting 13 rebounds, while John Oltman and Karl Miller each tallied 14. Pella finished with 14 3-pointers made.

In the girls game, Pella’s defensive onslaught stifled Norwalk at every turn in a 52-20 shutout that went to continuous clock in the second half, as the girls in green held the Warriors to just four points over the 2nd and 3rd quarters combined.

Grace Held scored 11 points and nabbed eight steals as Pella forced 27 Norwalk turnovers, and Emily Holterhaus followed up her school-record rebound night from Tuesday with a 21 point, 18 rebound performance, eight of which came from the offensive glass.

Both Pella teams improve to 2-1 in the conference; the overall 4-3 girls and 4-2 boys hit the road to Newton Tuesday.
