The Indianola basketball teams closed the first half of the year with a split on the road at Grinnell last night.

The Indian boys had no trouble against the Tigers winning 67-33. Indianola dominated the first three quarters of play building a 39-18 lead at half and never looked back. Three players were in double figures led by Evan Gauger with 26 points and nine rebounds. Quinn Vesey collected 16 points and AJ Toigo added 13. The Indians head into the holiday break with a 7-1 record. Head Coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports it was a complete team effort.

“This was probably our most complete game all year long. Defensively we had more urgency and it was nice to see us put them away in the third quarter. Give credit to our kids and this is a big win for us.”

The girls didn’t have as good as luck falling 80-55. The Indians kept it tight in the first half only trailing 17-14 after one and 25-19 at the break. A big second half extended the lead and put the game out of reach. Mara Bishop led the way for the Indians with 17 points and Kendall Clatt had 15. Indianola drops to 4-4.

Both teams are off until January 4th when they tangle with Oskaloosa.
