Four students from Pleasantville have been chosen to take part in next year’s American Legion Iowa State program.
Noa Sample and Kasey Pelzer will represent Pleasantville at Girls State, while Cale Anthony and Mitchell Harken will attend Boys State on behalf of Pleasantville.
Boys State and Girls State are week-long hands-on instructional programs dealing with the basics of democracy and government; students taking part will learn up close how government works at all levels, how political parties are organized, and how all these entities function together.
The American Legion of Iowa says these students will learn more about democracy and government in one week than they would in an entire semester of school.
Girls State will be held on the campus of Drake University from June 16th to 21st, and is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.
Boys State is tentatively scheduled for June 9th to 14th, at a location to be announced.
