Marion County got another taste of winter for the weekend, but so far there have been no logistical problems for the crews with the Marion County Road Department.
Mike McMurray is the department’s road maintenance supervisor; he tells KNIA/KRLS News they started out the season with 1,600 tons of salt/sand mix available, and have used just 500 tons…with more standing by, and still more on order if needed.
“At any given time we have 1,600 tons of mix on hand, but we’ve also got 1,400 tons of straight salt on hand as well,” McMurray says. “So we’ve got that in reserve; and then we’ve also got another 500 tons that we have contracted for in-season delivery, so I think we’ll be in good shape this winter as far as our supply goes.”
Standard procedure for the county is to send out plows no earlier than 4:00 a.m. and ensure their personnel get adequate rest during the evening if a snow emergency extends into the following evening.
