Those caring for children or a dependent adult will have a change in their taxes for this upcoming tax season, allowing for more deductions if you hire a caregiver.

Janel Crowe with H&R Block in Indianola tells KNIA News the limits have been raised which should help benefit working families.

“The big changes this year are in independent care. If you are claiming a dependent, either a child or dependent adult, you can now deduct up to $3,000 of expenses if you hire a caregiver. There are also changes in the limits of the child tax credit, which is up to $2,000 instead of $1,000, so that is a big bonus for those taking care of children.”

The IRS has yet to release an official date on when the earliest tax returns can be filed for 2019, but historically they can be sent in by the end of January.
