From the EF-3 tornado impacting Vermeer Corporation, to several wind storms causing damage in the Knoxville and Melcher-Dallas areas, to flooding events in the fall, 2018 was an active weather year in Marion County.
The 92.1 KRLS Severe Weather Action team was on the air for at least ten different severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings impacting Marion County, and sometimes multiple times for certain storm systems. A tornado warning forced evacuation and cancelled events on the Thursday of Tulip Time, a wind storm in August flattened farm buildings near Melcher-Dallas and Knoxville, and flooding in October shutdown numerous county roads and some buildings in Knoxville. Minor injuries were reported during an EF-3 storm that eventually totalled two of the plants at Vermeer Corporation.
Additionally, many people had Thanksgiving weekend cut short when a snowstorm dumped over a foot of snow the following Sunday on areas primarily south of Highway 92 in Marion, Warren, and Mahaska Counties. 92.1 KRLS is on the air for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for any portion of Marion County.
