Another slow start doomed the Indianola Indians boys basketball team Friday night against Oskaloosa as they fell 63-53, while the Indian girls dominated from start to finish to win 60-19 in a pair of games heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

The Indians girls forced 18 first half turnovers en route to a 43-11 halftime lead, and got plenty of playing time up and down the roster. Mara Bishop led the way with 17 points. The Indians boys had trouble adjusting to the height of Oskaloosa’s 7’0 and 6’10 forwards, and fell down early 20-2 in the first quarter. Indianola would crawl back into the game but trail 14 at halftime, with second half adjustments to force the Oskaloosa guards to shoot outside getting the Indians within 7 several times but could get no closer. Evan Gauger scored 39 points in the loss, but was matched by Cole Henry of Oskaloosa scoring 43. The Indian boys fall to 7-2 on the season, the girls improve to 4-5, and both teams will play Lewis Central tonight at home.
