The Knoxville Basketball Squads were told to have fun at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines against Newton on Saturday. And fun they did in a sweep of the Cardinals, but the big moment came late in the fourth quarter, Katie Keitges became the fourth player in the five-one-five era to score 1,000 career points. She eclipsed that milestone with a three pointer with under two minutes remaining in the game that the Panthers won comfortably over Newton 61-37. Keitges needed 32 points going in and got 33 to lead all scorers. The boys had to survive a furious comeback by the Cardinals to hold on for a 71-67 win. Knoxville was up by as many as 20 points in the second half when Newton started bombing away at three point shots to get the lead down to three. However, the Panthers made free throws to clinch the win. The Knoxville girls are now 10-1 on the season while the boys are 6-4. Both teams will take on Pella Christian Monday night which you can hear on both KNIA and KRLS.
