Pella Christian’s girls won a thriller while the Eagles boys flexed their muscle in a sweep of Knoxville in a non-conference doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The girls won 47-45 in game one, with Pella Christian and No. 9 in 4A Knoxville appearing to be evenly matched through the first two quarters, with the Panthers edging P.C. 23-22 at that break, and rebounds and turnovers were essentially even. Knoxville pulled to a lead as large as eight late in the 3rd quarter, but the Eagles kept chipping away in the 4th. The Panthers led by four late in regulation, but questionable missed shots led to two Allison Van Gorp buckets that allowed them to tie and eventually take the lead.

Van Gorp had 18 points and 13 rebounds, with Isabella Baugh adding 8 points and 9 boards. Knoxville’s Katie Keitges, who joined the 1000 point club over the weekend, scored 26 points and almost won the game for the Panthers as her three/quarters court shot banked off the backboard, hit the front of the rim and fell off as the buzzer sounded.

The nightcap was never in doubt, with Pella Christian leading wire-to-wire in an 80-39 blowout of Knoxville. Dan Jungling was 8 of 10 from three, scoring 24 points, Brett Roose collected 12 points and six rebounds, and Jayden Huisman tacked on 11 to the scoreboard.

Pella Christian’s boys improve to 6-4, the girls are now 6-6, and each wrap up round one of the conference season Friday at Oskaloosa.

Knoxville’s girls are 10-2 overall and the boys drop to 6-5 — both travel to Clarke Friday.
