It was a memorable night inside of the Pella High gymnasium, as the Pella High basketball teams swept ADM in a doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Pella boys earned a 65-62 win on a bank-shot buzzer-beater by Grant Nelson, while earlier in the night the Pella girls won 67-54 on a milestone night for Emily Holterhaus.

The Lady Dutch senior hit a driving layup in the second quarter for her 1,000th career point, and her 22-point 17-rebound night led Pella to victory. Holterhaus joins Jenny Dorman, Amy Steenhoek and Katie Vander Molen in the exclusive club.

Pella also got double figure efforts from three other seniors, with Grace Held scoring 13, Sidnie Van Vark chipping in 11 and Elly Cairney adding 10. The Lady Dutch are now 7-4 on the season.

In the boys game, Pella built a nine-point halftime lead, but went cold as ADM pulled ahead by six with less than three minutes to play. The Little Dutch defense forced several turnovers down the stretch, allowing them to tie the game before Nelson’s 22-foot heave at the horn.

Ryan Gustafson led the way with 23 points, Nelson added 11, and Nick DeJong had 15 rebounds. Pella is 8-2.

Both the Lady Dutch and Little Dutch will head to Grinnell as they return to Little Hawkeye Conference action on Friday night.
