A wild finish highlighted a home split at a triangular meet hosted by Pella Thursday night.

Pella claimed victory on the seventh tiebreaker to bust a 39-39 draw with Woodward-Granger. The road Hawks were able to tie Pella in the heavyweight bout to close the night.

Pella Wrestling Head Coach Bryant Hancock tells KRLS Sports it was the kind of dual he’d been looking for all season, and he was especially impressed with the tenacity they had on the mat.

“It was a match I hope will start propelling us,” he says. “It really came down to our intensity — our intensity was so much better in the second dual, we understood that there was a sense of urgency that there was not in the first dual…and hopefully they realize it takes that kind of Herculean effort every time you step on the mat, if you want to have success.”

Pella earned pinfall wins from Logan Schroeder (106, 1:18), Aiden Pollock (126, 1:33), Ryan Van Donselaar (138, 2:33), Matt Widmar (145, 3:42), Ben Hones (152, 3:44), and Nate Kissinger (182, 1:59). The Little Dutch also earned a key win from Tyson Wick, who overcame two takedown attempts in the third period to edge out a 9-8 decision at 120 pounds.

Earlier in the night, Pella was routed by Indianola 56-12. Ryan Van Donselaar earned the lone pinfall win for the Dutch.

Pella heads to the Pleasantville tournament Saturday.
