A charity which provides the opportunity to attend summer camp for children with a parent in prison, will be the recipient of a donation from a men’s organization.
100+ Men on a Mission Red Rock held its quarterly meeting on Tuesday night at Peace Tree Brewing Company and Taproom in Knoxville, and chose to make a donation to Angel Tree.
This organization each year gives about 400 children the opportunity to attend a week-long camp at Lake View Camp in Pella; kids from first through twelfth grade with a parent inside or recently released from prison are eligible to take part.
Linn Roose (ROH-suh) from 100+ Men on a Mission Red Rock tells KNIA/KRLS News this camp allows children to have fun for a week at no cost, and to interact with other kids who understand the problems of having an incarcerated parent.
“It’s kind of a nice little niche thing that Lake View does; they obviously serve kids of all kinds that are welcome to come to their camps, but it’s really kind of a unique thing that they’ve identified this group of kids and are really intentionally reaching out to them, to bring them to camp free of charge,” Roose says.
Every three months, the group gathers to hear presentations from various charities; each member donates $100, and then votes on which one to donate to. Any not for profit organization around the Red Rock area can be considered; the only restriction is a recipient is not eligible again for two years.
A formal check presentation to Angel Tree will be arranged in the next couple of weeks.
