Kids in Pleasantville have few options available to them when looking for a place to exercise or a gymnasium to use; so the Pleasantville School District is considering making their facilities available to students during off days.
At Tuesday night’s Pleasantville Board of Education meeting, members discussed the possibility of making school facilities available for student use outside of regular school days.
District Superintendent Tony Aylsworth tells KNIA/KRLS News giving students access to school gyms and other facilities will give them the chance for activity during break times, regardless of weather.
“Although we’re in the golden circle of the Des Moines metro area, we don’t have any private facilities here in town or the luxury of a Central College or Simpson College in our backyard,” Aylsworth says.
“We think if there’s something we can do to open up our facilities to kids more, then we need to consider it; and so we’re trying to put some things in place to make sure that happens.”
No formal action was taken by the board.
Aylsworth says for next month, there will be a detailed statewide performance profile and postsecondary readiness report for the board, to see how the Pleasantville district measures up.
