Area 1A and 2A high school basketball teams know the teams they will have to beat to get to the state tournament.

After a year away from The Well, the 7-5 Pella Christian Eagles have been matched with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Albia, and Davis County from the South Central Conference, as well as Van Buren and Williamsburg, in class 2A District 9.

Paired in the same substate is District 10, including PCM and Pleasantville. Those two teams will have to exit a field featuring Van Meter–ranked near the top of several state polls, as well as Chariton, Colfax-Mingo, and Interstate 35. District 9 and District 10 champions will play in the substate round to get to state.

The Class 1A and 2A boys basketball playoffs start on February 11th. Class 3A and 4A district assignments will be announced on Friday, January 25th, and actual brackets should be released in early February. Additionally, girl’s assignments in Classes 1A, 2A, and 3A will be announced sometime late next week, and 4A and 5A the following.
