Heal House of Iowa is collecting data on the homeless citizens of Warren County today with a Point-In-Time Count.

Laurie Abernathy with Heal House of Iowa tells KNIA News a Point-In-Time Count gathers all of the homeless population, hands out blankets and other cold weather gear, and will ask those who are homeless about their situation. Abernathy also said that one of the biggest homeless problems that we forget about is homeless students

“We have several here in the Indianola school district, and one thing about the Point-In-Time Count is that we can identify what those students and other homeless need and how much hygiene products do we bring into the schools for them, and other things that can help them. We also try to put them up with local families who have room. You don’t realize how many we have, and once we put the information out there it’s amazing how much more you notice.”
