Sweet relief is coming for those exhausted from this week’s record breaking cold.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will rebound rapidly this weekend; approaching the mid-40s above zero on Saturday and Sunday, which represents a nearly 70 degree swing from the near 20-degree below zero air on Wednesday morning. A record coldest low temperature and high were both set on Wednesday, at -24 degrees in the morning and the high only topping out at nine degrees below zero in the afternoon. The previous coldest-ever marks were -3 set in 1918 during the day and -22 in 1996. Additionally, Tuesday was the coldest evening on record, as a low of 22 degrees below zero broke the previous mark of 18 below set in 1965.

Extremely dangerous wind chills were reported as well, as the air felt like it was 46 below zero overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Stay tuned to 92.1 KRLS for the latest winter weather information.
