Four members of Central College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council participated in the Athletic Prevention Programming and Leadership Education Training Institute at Charlottesville, Virginia recently.

Football/men’s tennis player Danny Anderson, women’s golfer Emily Opsal, baseball player/athletic training student Kaiden Fielbelkorn, and baseball player/athletic training student Blake Wooten attended the institute on the campus of the University of Virginia. They were accompanied by Central’s SAAC advisors, senior associate athletics director Alicia O’Brien and exercise science lecturer Katelin Valster.

Created in 1991, the program identifies seven areas where athletics departments can impact substance abuse among student-athletes: recruitment, expectations and attitudes, education, policies, drug testing, sanctioning, and referral and counseling.
