A Pella alumnus is taking part in a 1,000 mile race from Canada to Alaska.

Deke Naaktgeboren is participating in the 2019 Yukon Quest dog sledding competition this week, and is over 200 miles into his journey. The goal is to race the dogs from Fairbanks, Alaska, to Whitehouse, Yukon, Canada. Naaktgeboren tells KRLS News while he’s still relatively new to the sport, he enjoys the thrill of being outdoors and connecting with fellow racers and the animals.
