On Tuesday the PCM wrestling team captured history when they clinched a program’s first trip to state duals after winning a pair of duals in Atlantic for regionals.

After a 38-33 win over Harlan in the semifinals the Mustangs were set for a rematch with Carlisle in the championship round. The two teams had many hard fought battles throughout the year and the Wildcats had the upper hand in each of their first two duals. PCM was not going to let history repeat itself again, as they came out with an exciting 38-31 win. Head Coach Jeff Nicholson tells KRLS Sports a lot of wrestlers did not have their best stuff but to push through and still come out on top speaks volumes about his team.

“The kids that were struggling pushed through and got wins for us when things got tough. That’s what it is all about. Sometimes things are tough but that’s when you get stronger and learn from those experiences. I am really proud how they came through all night.”

Nicholson adds after losing in the regional finals last year that motivated his squad to not let that happen again on Tuesday. The pairings for state duals were released yesterday with the Mustangs slotted as the sixth seed facing off with #3 Osage in the first round on Wednesday. Ten Mustang wrestlers gear up for districts tomorrow in Knoxville.
