The PCM girls basketball season came to an end Wednesday after a 64-35 loss to North Polk in the class 3A regional semifinal. The Mustangs would start the game hot with sophomore Lilli Baird leading the way in the first half with 10 points and only trailing by 2 points after one quarter of play. PCM would see their deficit grow however late in the 2nd quarter after a pair of turnovers resulted in a 26-18 advantage for the Comets. North Polk lead by sophomore Maggie Phipps and her 24 points would dominate the 2nd half of play on their way to a 29 point win. The loss ends the season for the Mustangs as well as the basketball careers of three seniors, Cameron Wignall, Morgan DeHaai and Mackenzie Bussan. North Polk advances to take on South Tama Saturday for the right to play in the state tournament. PCM finishes their season 9-12 overall.
