The Pella Area Community and Economic Alliance hosted State Senator Ken Rozenboom and Representative Dustin Hite for a legislative business forum Friday. Both Rozenboom and Hite spoke about the latest issues in the Iowa Statehouse, including discussion about judicial selection reform, voting rights restoration for felons, infrastructure issues with wastewater, water, and broadband internet expansion, education spending and the overall budget, gun rights on private property, financial literacy requirements, promotion of Iowa to out-of-state people, and the forest reserve program, among other topics. Rozenboom says it’s important to engage with all residents, and the forum helped facilitate discussion between several groups in the community. He says there are several bills being kicked around committees and subcommittees, with the first major funnel looming on March 8th, when bills and joint resolutions not related to appropriations need to pass the committee level in their respective chamber.
