The Pella boys track and field team will look to vault themselves back among the elite in Class 3A this spring, in a team mixed with key upperclassman and a plenty of talented sophomores and freshmen.

Pella Head Coach Brent Van Hauen says one key area that will be a strength this year is their throwing roster, which features the two of the top returning shot put throwers–Nick De Jong and Mason Huerter, and one of the top returning discus throwers, Kody Huisman.

Van Hauen also believes they will have a strong core of hurdlers and middle distance runners, and if their younger sprinters and distance runners tap into some of their big potential, it could be a special season for the program. Pella has won two team titles this decade, in 2016 and 2013, and is a regular contender in the 3A ranks.

Many of the Little Dutch track and field athletes home for break will head to the Central College indoor invitational this Friday.
