A Pella Christian senior and three-sport athlete who had her senior year cut short due to injury will try her hand at two sports when competing at the next level.

Morgan Fopma says she intends to compete in both track and basketball when she enrolls at Dordt University next fall; she’s choosing to try both sports after she lost her senior basketball season due to a torn knee ligament suffered early in the volleyball campaign.

“I was planning on doing track, as I’ve always loved to run,” she says. “But after losing my basketball season this year because of the torn ACL, I decided I wanted one more year of basketball, or as many as I’m allowed to play.”

On the track, Fopma has been one of the best ever in Eagles history, qualifying for state as a high jumper in her freshman and sophomore seasons, as a 400 meter hurdler in 2017 and 2018, and in several relay events, totalling up to eight total entries in her career. Last year, Fopma placed 4th in the 400 hurdles and 3rd on the 4×200 relay. She’s hopeful to return late in the track season as she continues to rehab.

As a basketball player, Fopma had a strong junior year in 2018, averaging 11.1 points and eight rebounds per game.
