It was Grant Judkins Day on Sunday for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Pella alumnus and current Hawkeye junior delivered a game-winning, two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the University of Iowa baseball team a 5-4 walk-off victory over Cal State Northridge in game one of a twin bill Sunday. And he had a near perfect day on the mound in game two, pitching eight strong innings in a 3-1 win to complete the doubleheader sweep. In the nightcap, Judkins allowed just one run on three hits, and set down eight straight batters from the second to the fifth inning, while also throwing four 1-2-3 innings. So far this season, Judkins has a 2-1 record in five starts, striking out 30 in 29 innings with a 1.52 ERA to lead the Hawkeyes in all of those categories. He was the Iowa High School Gatorade Player of the Year and Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year in 2016, leading the Pella Dutch to back-to-back state tournament appearances in his junior and senior seasons.
