The Central College baseball is headed back to Iowa with an 10-1 record after ending the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 10-4, 13-0 sweep over Crown College on Monday night. Winning 10 of the first 11 games on the schedule, the Dutch are off to the best start in program history.

From the leadoff spot, center fielder Coy Moore, a senior and Twin Cedars graduate, becomes the third Central player to record seven hits in a doubleheader. He went 7-for-9 with 6 RBIs on the final day of the trip.

Senior Tanner Wood, who is from Pella, is off to a strong start, leading the team with his .442 average in 43 at bats, with five extra base hits and 15 runs batted in. He’s also started two games on the mound, sporting a 0.90 ERA in 10 innings with a 1-0 record. He was an All-State selection for the 2015 Pella baseball team that made it to the 3A state semifinals. Fellow Pella alum Adam Carey is 2-0 on the mound to start as well, with a 2.89 ERA in two starts.

The Dutch will open the American Rivers Conference season with a weekend series at Coe College, starting Saturday at noon — games that can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
