An event for women seeking advice on entering a career in business or starting their own company, is being co-sponsored by the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce and other area chambers.

Knoxville’s chamber is joining with the Grinnell and Newton Chambers of Commerce in sponsoring the event, to be held on Thursday, April 18th in Newton. They are hosting it in conjunction with the Greater Des Moines Partnership, a regional association of local chambers which Knoxville recently joined.

Hannah Vander Veer with the Knoxville Chamber tells KNIA/KRLS News women still face obstacles in the business world, and this session was developed in an effort to give them some advice on how to overcome these difficulties.

“This entire event was brought up by the Greater Des Moines Partnership last year, when there was a study that was brought up that (Iowa) was very low in all fifty states for women-owned businesses,” Vander Veer says.

“That number is shifting, and we have a lot of women, even in Knoxville, who are opening businesses. So we just wanted to provide a space for people to come together, share their experiences, learn from each other and kind of get through some of those barriers that they see.”

The event will consist of four panels dealing on four different subjects of interest to women in the business world; panelists from Knoxville, Grinnell and Newton will be participating.

It will run from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Cellar Peanut Pub in Newton. Participants may register through their respective Chambers of Commerce.
