Pella Christian’s girls soccer team opened the year with a win over their closest rival, taking down No. 12 in 1A Des Moines Christian 3-2 on the road. The varsity debut of Freshman Avey Amelse was a special one, as she completed the hat trick by giving P.C. the lead in the final two minutes of regulation. Amelse also scored in the 11th and 28th minute. Pella Christian had 13 shots on goal to the Lions’ 6 as well. The Eagles quickly turn around when they host Ottumwa on Eagle Lane tonight.

The Eagles’ girls tennis team opened with a road win, taking down Albia 8-1. Singles winners included Morgan Bush, Lizzy Posthuma, Jaden Joy Morgan, Kitty Gu, and Megan Kramer. Pella Christian is back at home today against another South Central Conference foe, as they welcome Centerville to Eagle Lane.

Pella Christian could not solve the Blue Demons on the pitch at home Monday, falling to Albia 2-1 in a boys soccer tilt. PC’s Daniel Mora scored first in the 19th minute, and Albia’s Ian Greiner answered in the 34th. The Blue Demons scored the final goal in the 43rd minute. The Eagles, who fall to 0-2, will clash with crosstown rivals Pella tonight to open the season — the Little Dutch are rated 2nd in Class 2A and are 1-0 after earning a 3-1 road win against Winterset last week. The game takes place at the Pella Sports Complex on Neil Drive.
