Pella traveled to the Cownie Soccer Complex to participate in the Des Moine Roosevelt Roughrider Tournament Saturday, splitting their matches. The No. 3 ranked Dutch had their first match was against No. 9 in 2A Denison-Schleswig of 2A. Pella gave up an early goal, but recovered and tied the match before halftime with a goal from Denzel Poulter. The 2nd half ended with no additional scoring, moving right to PK kicks to decide the outcome. Pella scored 3 of their first 4 kicks to only 1 by Denison, giving them the OT win 2-1 officially. The 2nd match was against 3A Sioux City West, who scored to put the Dutch down early, but a well-timed ball thru ball by Drake Beard found Denzel Poulter on the left side of the field and Poulter tied it just before halftime, 1-1. However, Pella couldn’t contain a physical West team, falling 4-1. Pella is 5-1 and travels to Norwalk Tuesday.

Pella’s No. 2 rated soccer team split at the ADM tournament Saturday. The Lady Dutch fell to No. 5 in 1A Gilbert 2-1 before bouncing back with a 3-1 win over Glenwood. Grace Held scored the lone goal for Pella in the first contest to put Pella ahead early, before Gilbert rallied to score twice and win in the 68th minute. In game number two, the Lady Dutch dominated the Rams, despite falling behind early, with Roselande VanderHoff netting two of the three for the girls in green. Pella, now 4-1, returns to action Tuesday vs. Norwalk.

It was a day of success for the Pella boys at the Knoxville Tennis Invitational Saturday, placing second overall. Jordan Roozeboom finished 2nd in the No. 1 singles flight, falling to North Polk’s Evan Moon in the finals. Luke Diers won three in a row in the consolation bracket after falling to Tyler Wells of Knoxville. The doubles duo of Carter Briggs and Vaughn Thompson claimed the doubles title, and Caleb Briggs and Matthew Thompson won the consolation bracket. Pella’s boys are next at Norwalk today.
