In a clash of ranked teams, the No. 2 Lady Dutch Soccer team bested No. 9 Norwalk 3-1 at Pella High School Tuesday. Grace Held broke free in the 22nd minute to put Pella ahead, and the Lady Dutch defense held off multiple close calls from the Warriors attack. Both teams prevented close shots until Held busted it open again on a header, connecting from a near-perfect corner kick from Josie Lickteig in the 62nd minute. Hailey Kowzan iced the contest with a goal in with just over 10 minutes remaining. Held is now up to 94 career goals as she approaches 100 on the season. Pella, now 5-1, is off until Tuesday at Newton.

The No. 3 ranked Pella’s boys soccer team traveled to No. 12 Norwalk, falling 2-0 to their conference rivals. Head Coach Mark Solomon says the match was very physical, and the Dutch played the Warriors strong in the first half with both sides going 0-0 after 40 minutes. However, he says Pella struggled against some of Norwalk’s outstanding talent in the midfield, and the Warriors found the net twice in the 2nd half. Pella next plays at home on Thursday against Ottumwa.

Both of Pella’s tennis teams had clean sweeps of Newton, with the Little and Lady Dutch both winning 11-0 Tuesday. Pella’s boys remained perfect in dual meets, with Jordan Roozeboom, Jack Edwards, Carter Briggs, Luke Diers, Vaughn Thompson, and Ezra Blazi winning all of the singles matches. The Lady Dutch had wins from Hanna Blom, Abbie Nunnikhoven, Lisa Dykstra, Makenzie Van Maanen, Zoe Card, and Andie Sunderman. Both teams are back in action Thursday, with the girls hosting Oskaloosa and the boys heading down Highway 163.

The Lady Dutch Golf Team was edged out by Dallas-Center Grimes on Tuesday night by one stroke in a road triangular. The Lady Dutch shot a 202 to DCG’s 201. Norwalk placed third with a 213. Leading scores were Halie Veenstra (46), Karissa Galeazzi (51), Lindsey Roose (52), Reagan VanWyk (53), and Lauren VanWyk (53). Pella’s girls next travel to Edmundson Park in Oskaloosa Thursday.
