Despite at-times nasty conditions for late spring in Des Moines, several Tulip City athletes posted season low times at the 110th Drake Relays Saturday. Lady Dutch Junior Elsie Thoreson ran a career best 1:05.99 in the 400 meter hurdles, good for 6th overall and ties the 4th fastest time in 3A this season. Pella’s 4×100 relay also ran a season best, as Metsje Miller, Maggie Renaud, Emily McMartin, and Roselande Vanderhoff clocked in at 50.95 for 23rd. Metsje Miller ran 12.99 in the open 100 for 20th. Pella’s boys 4×100 jumped from the 95th seed to finish 63rd in the 4×100, running the relay in 45.38 seconds. P

Pella Christian’s 4×100 girls had a season best, as Erica Nikkel, Chloe Morgan, Mary Kate Bandstra, and Avey Amelse placed 29th at 51.33 seconds. The Pella and Pella Christian track and field teams will compete in Newton for the Little Hawkeye Conference meet on Tuesday.
