No. 8 Pella knocked off the defending 2A girls soccer championships, upsetting No. 1 Lewis Central 3-2 in a home soccer match Saturday. The Lady Dutch attacked early and got the jump on the Titans, scoring the first goal in the 2nd minute in a scrum, with the tally credited to Macy Schulz. Pella took a 2-0 lead in the 14th minute and kept Lewis Central at arms length, holding off a few late attempts to tie it. Grace Held scored twice for the Lady Dutch. Pella improves to 9-2 and next welcomes Winterset to Pella High School Thursday.

The Lady Dutch Golf Team placed 2nd in the South Tama Invitational Saturday, shooting 383 as a team and falling to Grinnell, who carded 339. Pella was led by Lauren VanWyk (87), who placed third individually, Reagan VanWyk (95), Karissa Galeazzi (99), and Halie Veenstra (102).


After morning rain put a halt to action at Caldwell Park Saturday, the Pella girls tennis team will open the Class 1A regional playoffs at home. The Lady Dutch will open against, with the team advancing taking on the winner of Newton vs. Clarke in the afternoon.
