Seniors at Knoxville High are in the middle of their last week of school, and perhaps one of their busiest, as Graduation Day approaches.

The pre-graduation events continue this evening with Scholarship Night; about two-thirds of the graduating class will be receiving scholarship money from the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation and other sources.

Knoxville District Superintendent Cassi Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS News many students will be recognized with awards as well as scholarships, and these funds will be a crucial boost for those moving on to post-graduate schooling.

“There’s so many awards given out, there’s many that are attached to those in the form of scholarships, and it truly makes the next step of their journey possible for some of our kids…because post-secondary education or additional trainings are expensive.

“And so some of the help they get through the Scholarship Foundation definitely makes a difference,” Pearson says.

Friday will be the last day of school for the Class of 2019, and will begin with Senior Awards Day followed by Graduation rehearsal in the school gymnasium.

Commencement will be on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock; Pearson says temperatures are expected to be in the 70’s, much cooler than the 100-degree temperatures felt inside the non-air conditioned gymnasium last year.
