Several local athletes have advanced to the state tournament after nearly 13 hours of tennis at Pella High School Wednesday. The doubles duo from Pella Christian of Lizzy Posthuma and Morgan Bush won the regional doubles title to earn a bid in the state individual tournament May 29 and 30 in Iowa City. Posthuma and Bush defeated Knoxville’s Alex Griggs and Anna Sanderson, who as runners-up, will also head to the state meet. The Eagles climbed out of a 2-5 deficit in set three to close a day full of tennis. Pella’s Brooke Jorgensen, the Class 1A 3rd place athlete two years running, was 2nd place in the singles bracket to make her 4th individual tournament. Grinnell’s Macy Harris found the final spot, winning the singles bracket.
