Pella Historical Society and the Tulip Time Steering Committee held a wrap-up meeting Wednesday to put a cap on 2019 and look ahead to next year’s celebration. Executive Director Valerie Van Kooten says this year’s celebration is another in a round of consecutive successful festivals, which is the biggest fundraiser for Pella Historical.

Van Kooten says while the overall crowd estimate didn’t top the 2017 record, it was one of the busiest Saturdays they’ve ever had, with several parking lots filling and the streets crowded during the afternoon parade.

“It’s a rare year when you get perfect weather, perfect tulips, perfect flowering trees, and a good forecast, and all those things combined to bring in thousands of people, not just during Tulip Time, but the week before and continuing the week after. The tulips stayed nice for a long time because of the cool weather,” she says.

KRLS is the official radio station of Tulip Time, providing updates and features throughout the celebration.
