A car with possible explosives inside was searched and detained near Hartford early Sunday morning. According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, another law enforcement agency alerted the office that there was a vehicle parked at the Hartford Git and Go, and inside the back of the vehicle was a blue and white cooler that contained possible explosives. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene, and determined that a blue and white cooler was in the vehicle with items that looked consistent with explosive devices.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified, and the State Bomb Squad responded to the scene to seize and determine the contents of the items. No arrests have been made in reference to the suspicious materials at this time. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, State Fire Marshal’s Office,and Carlisle Police Department, as well as the Hartford Fire Department and Warren County Emergency Management.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office tells KNIA News the business is now open for customers, and there is no threat to the public. More information will be released as it becomes available.
