Looking for his third national title, Central College men’s track and field athlete Will Daniels leads the Dutch men and women into the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend. The elite field was announced Saturday. The top 20 performers in each men’s event and top-22 in each women’s event were accepted for the meet. Daniels has the top decathlon mark in the country entering the national meet at 7,195 points. Only two other athletes have scored at least 7,000 points so far this season. He also had the sixth-best high jump in Division III but did not accept the entry. He’s won the last two national heptathlon championships during the indoor season. Teammate Drake Lewis is going to be competing in the high jump, qualifying tied for 11th after clearing 6 feet, 9 inches. Women’s throwers Emily Burt and Gillian Streit qualified in the shot put and discus throw, respectively. Burt is No. 19 entering the meet after putting the shot 44-4.75 at the Central Invitational on April 5. Streit is No. 21 in the discus throw after reaching 145-2 at the Viking Olympics on March 30. The national meet is being hosted by the University of Mount Union at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
