Severe weather impacted the region early Friday morning in most of south central Iowa. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air twice — for a severe thunderstorm warning in western Warren County from 6 to 6:45 a.m., and again for a warning in northern Marion and all of Jasper Counties from 7:10 to 7:45 a.m. Wind gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour were reported, primarily in Jasper County, and heavy rainfall fell throughout most of the region. Five staff members contributed to coverage during the storms, with reports from Weatherology Meteorologists as well. Scattered thunderstorms throughout the Memorial Day weekend into the middle of next week may become severe over the next several days. Localized flooding and flash flooding will remain a threat as well. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest severe weather information.
